Blending the image laden pop sensibilities of Neil Finn with the haunting soundscapes of Coldplay and mid-era Manic Street Preachers, Australian singer/songwriter David Christopher returns with his second album, Preloved.
Preloved is an optimistic step forward from the heartrending confessionals and character studies of its predecessor Apartment. Inspired by memories of summers spent playing the London singer/songwriter scene, an uplifting positivism pervades the album’s production values: urban soundscapes, pulsing organic beats, lush vocal harmonies and pop-oriented arrangements.
Preloved also finds its roots in the city of Hamburg, Germany, David’s adopted home during a career as an international touring bassist. Several of the album’s tracks were written and conceived during the downtime between tours and regular solo performances along the city’s infamous Reeperbahn strip.
Picking up where Apartment left off, Preloved replaces the former’s introspection with inspiration, displacement with the desire to belong. Once outsiders, characters now integrate meaningfully into their surroundings. Over eleven tracks, Preloved renders a beautiful world of hope and certainty.
Recorded during winter 2014 in David’s coastal hometown of Kiama, Australia, Preloved was released on 24th November of that year through Crimson Retriever Records.
